The support of Hungarian Jewry and the Hungarian government is very important to us, stated Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on an official visit to Budapest on 17 June. He had talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó and discussions with the representatives of the Hungarian Jewish denominations.

The two dates will be deeply engraved in the memories even of our descendants. The two dates are days of mourning for all of us living in democratic states, both times the barbarians attacked our free, peaceful, constructive world. Both occasions were days of brutal and inhumane attacks against innocent civilians.

Like everyone, we at the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) are watching the operations against Ukraine unfold with sadness and concern. Our sympathies are with the citizens of Ukraine, the Hungarians of Kárpátalja, and our Jewish friends there. But beyond sympathy we also want to take action.
