On the eve of Adar, we wish you a good month!

According to some explanations, the name of the month of Adar comes from the Akkadian word "ádáru" (cloudy, gloomy). But according to a much more beautiful explanation Adar comes from the Hebrew word "adir" (big, mighty), because great and mighty miracles happened to our people during this period. Either way, if Adar is here, we will soon be eating festive fish, and Purim is also coming!

Shvat will soon come to an end, and we will enter the first month of Adar. The first thing that comes to mind for all of us is the "Jewish carnival", i.e. Purim, the holiday of the casting of lots on the 14th of Adar.

And secondly: the fish. More precisely, the festive fish dinner, in memory of the fact that the prophet Moses was born on the 7th of the month of Adar and died on the 7th of the month of Adar.

This year, Purim begins on the evening of March 23. On this holiday, we remember that with the help of Queen Esther, the Jewish people were saved from the threat of destruction by the machinations of the evil Haman. The word Purim comes from the word פּוּר pūr (to cast lots), because Haman wanted to select the day of the destruction of our people by casting lots. Let's not forget that we owe a debt of gratitude to Esther, so in honor and memory of the queen, we observe a half-day fast on the day before Purim. We don't eat or drink from dawn to dusk, so we remember Eszter's three-day fast seeking for help.
